IP firm strengthens golden corridor hand with acquisition

Mathys & Squire now has a Cambridge-London-Oxford hand to play as one of the UK’s leading firms of patent and trade mark attorneys following the acquisition of Oxford-based Coller IP.

It is already thriving from a new Cambridge headquarters having grown in the city under the astute leadership of Alan MacDougall over several years in Europe’s leading Science & Technology cluster.

Now it has acquired Coller IP through one of its subsidiaries; Coller IP is a specialist in strategic, commercial intellectual property management and valuation.

The Oxford firm has been accredited as a leading expert in IP strategy and valuation. Recognising the critical importance of intellectual property as a business asset, the firm offers both valuation and evaluation of IP at all levels from initial assessment through to full due diligence.

Ilya Kazi, partner in Mathys & Squire said: “Coller IP provides an exciting opportunity for the Mathys & Squire Group on several different levels. The leadership team here has been looking to develop its IP strategy and valuation service line for a number of years and the opportunity arose for us to acquire Coller IP which sits nicely into our continuing strategy of growing Mathys & Squire’s capabilities, as well as giving us a further base from which to service our UK clients.”

Coller IP managing director Alex Tame added: “The team at Coller IP are delighted with this acquisition. This now allows us to scale up our proposition for clients in the UK and internationally, specifically in the Asian markets.

“We are really looking forward to working with Mathys & Squire and know that our IP strategy and valuation services are the ideal fit alongside Mathys & Squire’s patent and trade mark offering.”

The acquisition of Coller IP supports Mathys & Squire’s ambitious growth plans in both the UK and internationally, bringing its office locations to eight including, London, Manchester, Cambridge, York, Paris, Munich, Luxembourg and now Oxford.
