Cellexus fundraising to back global expansion

The McClintock building at Granta Park

Cellexus, a growing biotech company specialising in high quality, next-generation, disposable, single-use bioreactor systems and consumables has moved from Huntingdon to Granta Park at the heart of the Cambridge BioMedTech cluster in the UK.

The company has taken a suite in the McClintock Building with the aim of expanding within Granta Park and globally as the business grows.

CEO Rod Westrop said: “We’ve got the products and the customers and are now fundraising to allow the company to expand into international markets.”

Granta Park also allows the company to have vital access to the technology and science around Cambridge.

Westrop said: “It’s a great location with good facilities and transport links. There are also a couple of possible customers on the park and others with whom we can work with in order to develop prototypes for products. Attractions such as the cafe and the transport links are also great for staff retention.”

Cellexus was founded in April 2008. Since then the company has brought to market a range of novel single-use, disposable bioreactors and cell-based technologies designed to simplify biopharmaceutical research, scale up, production and contract manufacturing.

Companies on the science park include MedImmune, Pfizer, PPD and TWI. The McClintock Building and Riverside Development offer flexible office and R & D units, allowing growing companies to work within a thriving science community, which includes a sports and social programme, cafe, restaurant, nursery, fitness suite, commuter bus and 24 hour security and free meeting facilities.

Space is available from 800 sq ft to 330,000 sq ft ranging from flexible leases on fully fitted offices to development land ready for specialist buildings to be built.
