Bespak to shut down King’s Lynn Consumer Dispensers division

Milton Keynes-based medical devices specialist, Bespak plc, is to close its King’s Lynn Consumer Dispensers division over the next five months after efforts to sell the business fell through.Milton Keynes-based medical devices specialist, Bespak plc, is to close its King’s Lynn Consumer Dispensers division over the next five months after efforts to sell the business fell through.

Consumer Dispensers manufactures pumps for consumer household products and is the smallest of Bespak’s three business segments with a reported sales growth of just three per cent to £5.5m and an operating loss of £1m.

Following a one-off charge of some £3m, Bespak expects the closure to produce ongoing annual savings of at least £0.5m. The company added that wherever possible, the 54 employees affected by the shut-down would be redeployed into its growing Inhaled Drug Delivery business.

Mark Throdahl, Bespak’s chief executive, said: “Bespak has been transformed into a group focused on devices for inhaled drug delivery and anaesthesia, where we see significant growth opportunities.

“This closure will enhance group profitability and enable Bespak to focus on its declared growth market in medical devices.”

Last month Bespak reported sales in its financial year ending April 29 of £93.1m (up 17 per cent) and profit before tax and special items of £13.5m, up 24 per cent.
