Trading with China case study – CSR

China continues to be an important market for Cambridge wireless pioneer CSR as the number of consumer electronics companies there rapidly increases, serving both their fast growing domestic market as well as taking a growing place on the world stage.

Under the astute leadership of CEO Joep van Beurden, CSR has also identified that China will play an important role in the growth of the Internet of Things. This opportunity for Machine2Machine connection is potentially worth billions and is driving demand for CSR’s automotive and Bluetooth Smart products as well as its leading aptX audio products which provide the high quality audio increasingly demanded by discerning listeners.

CSR has been established in China for many years and has strong relationships in the territory. Currently there are 210 CSR employees operating out of China across Shanghai and Shenzhen. They are mainly development teams for CSR’s automotive SoC (System on a Chip) platforms who work alongside local sales and customer support teams.

The company solves the challenges and delivers the core innovations that enable its customers to win in the global consumer electronics market. Its passionate technologists develop enhanced silicon, software and services with a focus on Voice & Music, Document Imaging, Automotive Infotainment, Bluetooth® Smart and Indoor Location.

CSR partners with leading customers across the globe and delivers integrated and differentiated technology platforms to help them turn great ideas into market-leading products. The Bluetooth trailblazer spun out of Cambridge Consultants Limited with nine founding staff and first round funding of £6m. It currently has a market cap of around $1.6 billion.
