The whole world in your hands
East of England firms are being offered the inside track to help them expand into overseas markets as UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) – the Government body responsible for promoting international trade - hosts Export Week.
Following the success of last November’s Export Week, which attracted over 450 businesses, UKTI are running events right across the region during the week of 7 -11 April.
The events are aimed at businesses of all sizes – whether they are making their first forays into the world of exporting or are looking to expand their export activity into new markets. There are seven events during the week, and firms are being encouraged to book ahead now before spaces run out.
The main event of the week is the ‘Sizzling South East Asia’ event, held at Huntingdon on Tuesday 8 April. Southeast Asia is a key strategic region, where economic growth and development is expected to exceed the global average for the foreseeable future.
With a growing consumer class, average growth rates at over five per cent, and combined population of 600 million, the ASEAN (Association of South East Asian Nations) market has been valued at over $2 trillion, and will continue to thrive in the years to come.
Other events during the week cover specialist markets such as Russia, the Gulf states and Saudi Arabia– where the most recent export figures for the East of England show an increase in exports of nearly 40 per cent to over £300m.
As well as these specific market sessions, other events will also provide a host of must-know tips to give would-be exporters the inside track tips to help them steal a march on their competitors - covering issues like language and business culture, product and service innovation, intellectual property and legal matters, securing funding, and developing effective in-country communications strategies.
For companies only just considering exporting there are more general events where UKTI trade experts will help demystify the process, and give pointers and advice to get firms up and running on their exporting journey.
Feedback from UKTI’s international trade advisers is clear: The demand for innovative, quality British products and services across the world has never been greater.
Recent research has shown that exporting companies are more likely to become more productive and innovative than non-exporters, more resilient to an economic downturn and achieve stronger financial performance.
